Lenovo dives in to support International Coastal Clean-up 2010

In conjunction with the Lenovo’s corporate social responsibility program to support environmental sustainability, The local team recently supported the International Coastal Clean-up drive at the village of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas to help preserve the country’s marine environment.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the International Coastal Clean-up, which is an annual global volunteer movement organized by the Ocean Conservatory that is dedicated to cleaning up coastlines, rivers, and lakes.

Spearheaded by Planet Dive Resort, about 140 volunteer divers, including foreigners from as far as Australia, Japan and Spain participated in the coastal clean-up activities in Anilao, Batangas.

Lenovo’s corporate policy includes sustainable business practices and processes that minimize waste and pollution, conserve energy, minimize Lenovo’s carbon footprint and dispose of waste safely and responsibility. Lenovo is also committed to absolute reductions in the emission of greenhouse gases from company operations as well as driving and facilitating similar reductions throughout Lenovo’s supply chain.

Since 2005, Lenovo has used over 14 million pounds net of post-consumer recycled content plastics, which is equivalent to approximately 450 million water bottles. In 2009, over 30% of all plastic weight purchased to manufacture Lenovo monitors consisted of low halogen post-consumer recycled content, with every ThinkVision monitor released in 2009 containing post-consumer recycled content.

Some of the eco-friendly features included in Lenovo products include Power Manager, which helps optimize energy usage and saves up to 69% on energy consumption per desktop per year; Dynamic Brightness Control, which conserves battery by lowering screen brightness during transient states such as start-up, shutdown and screensaver mode; Active Directory and LANDesk for remote deployment of power schemes and global settings so that ThinkPad energy savings can be enforced company-wide by an IT department.
