WD Red, for home and small office shared storage

Western Digital, one of the most prominent name on storage industry, announced last July 16 the release of the latest hard drive in WD’s series of color-coded hard drive solutions: the WD Red™ NAS hard drives. This new and innovative line of SATA hard drives are specifically designed for home and small office Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems with one to five available drive bays.

The WD Red line of hard drives offers the Western Digital’s NASware technology, which is designed to improve reliability, overall performance and significantly reduces customer downtimes. The technology also simplifies the integration processes of the drives and minimizes data corruption or loss in the event of power loss by completing the command in process before shutting down. The WD Red hard drives also feature balance control technology through the 3D Active Balance Plus. WD will also be offering free 24/7 dedicated support and a three-year limited warranty upon purchase.

The WD Red hard drives further expands the WD’s color-coded hard drive solutions captioned as the “Power of Choice”. Western Digital recognizes the customer’s need to choose the drives that best suits their specific storage needs. The “Power of Choice” storage solutions includes WD Blue (solid performance and reliability for everyday computing), WD Green (cool, quiet and eco-friendly), WD Black (maximum performance for power computing) and now the WD Red (for home and small office NAS). With these choices, customers can now easily identify and carry out their storage needs much more efficiently.

According to a statement from John Rydning, IT research firm IDC’s research vice president for hard-disk drives, “WD’s new WD Red hard disk drives offer a unique combination of product features and customer support for users seeking to expand the capacity of their entry-level network attached storage solutions.”
