What is COVID-19?

The term “Covid-19” was coined a few months after a new coronavirus was first recognized in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in late December 2019. The illness is an acute respiratory disease now referred to as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which had been identified in December 2019. According to reports, there are more than 170 countries and territories that have been affected already, with major outbreaks in central China, Italy, South Korea, and Iran. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization characterized the spread of COVID-19 as a pandemic. [Source: Wikipedia]

About this post

I am from the Philippines and I live in the business district of Makati. We are now on the 6th day of the “Enhanced Community Quarantine” that covers the entire Luzon region. And since staying at home could be really boring, I asked my brother-in-law Jonald to help me come up with a real-time COVID-19 stats. After 2 days of “brainstorming”, Jonald, a seasoned programmer, (that’s how we called developers in our time, LOL!), came up with cool code that gets real data from an open API from Covid-19.

So, in this article, we will show you both the global and the local (Philippines) cases.
