Warning: Malware designed to be undetectable and incurable

Based from the mythological Hindu demon gods name “Rakshasa,” researcher Jonathan Brossard has uniquely experimented on codes and then created a malware that’s nearly impossible to disinfect.

Like most malware strains, his Rakshasa infects BIOS which is a part of a computers memory that boots operating system and initializes other computers devices but aside from that it also capitalizes on any peripheral devices of a computer i.e: CD-ROM, sound card, network card and use that to write to the computers RAM or its memory allocated to other peripherals. And when the BIOS or network card gets disinfected just in case it can be reinfected using the other compromised peripheral or component.

In order to disinfect the computer, “you would need to flash all the devices simultaneously,” says Brossard, founder of the French security consultancy Toucan System. “It would be very difficult to do. The cost of recovery is probably higher than the cost of the laptop. It’s probably best to just get rid of the computer.”
Spokesperson from Intel who reviewed Bossard’s paper says it as “largely theoretical” and just dismisses it.  He also said that “there is no new vulnerability that would allow the landing of the bootkit on the system.”
