In celebration of its 1st Anniversary, 1’M Blue Eco-Safe Driving Campaign invited a few bloggers to Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) head office and plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Aside from learning more about the 1’M Blue advocacy, we toured the manufacturing plant where Filipino engineers and workers assemble the Honda City, with no less than HCPI President and General Manager Tatsuya Natsume san welcoming us at the lobby.

During the visit, we sat down for a briefing with Ms. Patch Quilao, Group Head of Corporate Planning, and a few more HCPI executives who provided us with relevant information about HCPI, the Pinoy-made City, and the 1’M Blue Eco-Safe Driving Campaign.

A Japanese brand that started in1947, Honda made the first introduction of the Civic in 1970 in America. Most of us know that Honda manufactures motorcycles, automobiles, and generator sets, but we learned in the plant tour that there is also a Honda Jet.
In the Philippines, HCPI production commenced in 1992 with P1.1B investment in manufacturing operations. Today HCPI has 545 Associates (that’s how they call their employees), 99% of them are Filipino. HCPI produces 15,000 units and there are 28 independent Honda dealers nationwide and four service centers.
After the briefing, the tour of the production line began. We saw the actual manufacturing of the Honda City and how the strictest standards are complied from assembly to recycling of waste. We also had the chance to test drive some of Honda’s latest models including the Insight, a sedan with hybrid engine technology.
“1 Million Drivers to make the PH skies Blue” – 1’M Blue Eco-Safe Driving Campaign
Honda dreams of blue skies for our children and promotes eco-safe driving with partner organizations to realize this dream. Mr. Bonar Laureto, Executive Director of Philippine Business for the Environment, provided more information on why there should be more eco-safe drivers on the road. If each of one million drivers saves at least half a liter of fuel a day, we save 500k liters of fuel every day, do the math, that also means we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 36,000 tons in a month, and that will help make our skies blue!
All drivers, regardless of the car brand you’re driving should be eco-safe at all times. You will find practical tips at the 1M Blue Facebook page, and helpful videos that you can watch and share so that more people can practice eco-safe driving. With eco-safe driving, we do help save our planet and our children will get the chance to enjoy blue skies.
