Last month, OPPO launched new smartphones in the Philippines. OPPO R1X is one of the good-looking phone among the three that was introduced.
R1X has 5-inch IPS display with 1,280 x 720 pixels and 294 PPI. It is very thin at only 6.85 mm and weighs only 130 grams. It features a 2,420mAH non-removable battery. It looks like a smaller brother of the OPPO R5.
OPPO R1X has a price tag of P15,990. It looks really gorgeous that when you hold it feels like a slimmer iPhone 4. The back has a patterned glass which adds elegance to its already beautiful design.
What’s in the box
The usual suspects are inside the box — two booklets, micro-USB cable, a heavy-duty wall charger, headset, SIM-card tool, and a free transparent case.
Design and construction
As of today, OPPO R1X is my most favorite smartphone from the brand. This is because it is beautifully crafted, the slim metal casing with the glass cover looks really solid.
The buttons in this phone are located in its unusual positions. The power button is on the left side, the volume rocker is on the right alongside the SIM tray, speakers micro-USB port are at the bottom and on top is the 3.5-mm audio port.
Display and UI
OPPO R1X has a bright and crisp display. I have never encountered viewing discomfort even if you hold your phone up to 180 degrees. There are capacitive buttons which lack LED backlight by the way, making it hard to use the phone in the evening or in a dark environment like the cinemas. OPPO’s own UI called Color OS on top of Android 4.4 Kitkat is also smooth. You have to organize your apps into groups because OPPO has skipped the app drawer already.
The messaging app also allows users to easily block unwanted SMS senders and pin messages if needed.
Benchmarks
Antutu gave OPPO R1X a score of 28,551, while Nenamark gave 63.9fps. While I have my usual apps installed, the 2G RAM gave me smooth operation. I encountered very minimal lags.
Camera
One of the most important features in smarpthones today is the camera. OPPO R1X has 13 and 5 megapixels camera, has LED flash at the back and the camera apps have lots of features you will surely enjoy.

Over-all performance and conclusion
As a reviewer, you enjoy lots of gadgets almost every week. There are those gadgets that you just want to skip reviewing, and those don’t want to return to the brand because you like it so much. OPPO R1X is one of those I want to keep.
But it’s not the best smartphone. Here’s why I liked the R1X. The camera takes beautiful photos, both the rear and front. It is very slim and the display is really nice. Battery life is not impressive however. When I say it did not impress me, it is because I have to charge it twice in a day.
