AppBridge, an online platform enabling the creation, submission and distribution of free useful mobile applications, has partnered with the Philippines’ leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom launched the Ideas & Apps Philippine Challenge. The challenge will serve as a global initiative to bring free or cheap mobile applications that addresses modern social problems.
The Ideas and Apps Challenge is divided into two parts. The first part (May to June 5) is to gather ideas from ordinary people that will address the current Filipino social concerns by means of mobile communications. The second part (June 10 to September 1) is to engage mobile applications developers and companies to actually produce and launch the chosen Apps.
The Apps are identified into five key themes: education, health and humanitarian relief, job skills enhancement and employability, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship and good governance. This could range from the simplest SMS alerting systems to complex smartphone applications.
After the mobile solutions are developed, Globe Telecom will be responsible in distributing the applications to the mass market for a very low cost or even free.
The ideas can be submitted online through the AppBridge website (www.appbridge.org/Philippines) until midnight of June 5. The winners will be announced on June 10. The Applicants are also encouraged to submit a two-minute video about the idea and what social problem it will adress. The development of the applcations challenge will commence on June 11 until August 31. The winners for the second part will be announced on September 10 in time for the World Economic Forum Summit (China) and the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting (New York)
