Acer is catching up with the market quickly. Recently, they joined the sub-P5k race by introducing Acer Liquid Z520, a 5-inch smartphone with 1G RAM, 1.30 GHz quad-core processor, 8MP and 2MP cameras, and 2000mAh battery for only P4,990.
So we unbox our own unit to check if the price point would match the features the Z520 would like to offer to the mass market in the Philippines.
In the box are the usual items you would find in a new smartphone box — the micro-USB cable, wall charger, warranty booklet and quick manual, earphones, removable battery and the Liquid Z520.
The 5-inch Z520 is a gorgeous looking smartphone. If you hold it in your hands, you know that you are not holding a cheap smarpthone, the back cover has a textured design coupled with a silver band around the edge which will allow user not slip the phone off his hand.
But don’t get too much excited yet, because the display of the Liquid Z520 has only 480 x 854 pixels and you will also see a poor viewing angle.
But hey, if you concentrate on its selling point, you know that you will be happy you spend your money on this device.
Features of Acer Liquid Z520
On top of the Android Kitkat OS is a custom UI by Acer coupled with apps that are designed for used by users depending on the age bracket. There is a built-in app called Quick Mode. For the grandpas and grandmas that need large fonts and minimal items in the screen, Z520 can be set to Easy Mode, for kids the Basic Mode will be better with a few selected apps to use only and lastly, the Standard Mode, for the advanced users. And for the geeks, they can exit Quick Mode to go back to the normal UI.
Voice activated camera
Launch the camera app and start snapping photos by voice command. Say “Selfie” and the front camera will be activated and then take a shot from a 3-second delay. Say “capture” or “cheese” to take a picture. Say “rear camera” or “front camera” to which camera. You can turn on features like HRD, Normal, Panorama by simply saying the keyword.
Acer also added a DTS audio technology to add clarity, bigger sound and sterero quality audio from the Z520. However, do not expect too much, the audio is not as loud as it should be.
