MSI-ECS sent us the ZTE Grand X Quad a week ago and we got hold of the white version of it. ZTE Grand X Quad is powered by a quad-core MT6589 ARM Cortex A-7 1.2Ghz processor, 1G RAM, 4G of internal storage which is expandable up to 32G via microSD. Rear camera is 8MP, while the front camera has a 1.3 mega pixels. It features regular dual-SIM and a battery that really last long having a 2,500mAh capacity. Basic connectivity features like WiFi, Bluetooth, WiFi Hotspot, and HSPA+ (only), runs on Android 4.2.1 Jellybean OS, and weighs 163 grams.
What’s Inside the Box, Design and Build, First impressions.
ZTE Grand X Quad has a very basic packaging, very unassuming simple box with all you need in a smartphone: USB cable and charger, battery, quick start guide, headset and the Grand X. ZTE has a plastic body cover with the power button on top together with the 3.5mm audio port, very simple design with the volume rocker and micro USB charging port on the left side, it has two mic for noise cancelling feature. It feels solid when you hold it. The rear camera is protruding a little bit but has enough protection.
The ZTE logo is prominently printed just below the 8MP rear camera.
ZTE Grand X presents itself with a solid design, a really bright screen, responsive enough that comes with three on-screen buttons conveniently positioned at the bottom of the android phone. Its not a light phone, but its not as heavy that you will not like it at the end of the day.
Performance. Benchmarks. Battery Life.
Jumping from the recent Alcatel review units to ZTE Grand X, I felt the real speed of a mobile phone, the brightness of the screen is impressive, and what more can you ask for if its battery life survives more than 8-hour of putting on the data connectivity on.
The real winning feature of ZTE Grand X Quad is not the fast processor per se, but the battery that is just calm and stays cool even if you turn on your data connectivity and even share Internet via WiFi Hotspot. I give this credit to the Mediatek processor, hands down. The Qualcomm-powered phones really heats up immediately to the point that you can’t hold them in your hands anymore.
The screen is responsive you will never experience any lags.
The benchmarks screen shots will show you how Grand ZTE performs. As for the battery life, it gave us almost 2 days without turning on the data connectivity, with 3G on, it lasted us more than 12 hours. Nenamark score is 43.4 fps, Antutu reported a high 12,886.
Sample Images captured by ZTE Grand X.
The 8MP rear camera snaps quickly when you aim it to you subject. Just like any other camera on a smartphone, it gives impressive result on a well-lighted environment. Here are some of the photos we took.
Most of these images were captured using the automatic settings of the camera.

We have more of these photos and product shots in my Flickr account, go ahead check it out in this link.
Conclusion
Choosing between local and international brand is easier with ZTE Grand X Quad, its fast, sexy, has a very simple design, UI is stock, camera is good, the size is not huge enough that you can still use one-hand operation. I’d put stress on the superb performance of the battery life and like I mentioned earlier, it does burn your hands even when you turn on 3G/Data connectivity. Can’t ask for more at P11,990 but I wish that LTE was present.
What we liked.
– Fast and fluid performance
– Long battery life
– Superb picture quality
– Simple and sexy design
What we did not like.
– micro USB charging port located on the side
– Protruding rear camera
