Happy (Ongpauco) comes from a family of restaurateurs – they own the Barrio Fiesta Group of companies. She learned the ropes of running a restaurant by working in her family’s various outlets, which include Barrio Fiesta, Bakahan at Manukan, Singing Cooks and Waiters, Atbp., and Isdaan. She also studied to become a chef at the Culinary Institute of America.
So it wasn’t a big surprise when she started her first restaurant, World Topps, in Timog Avenue, Quezon City in year 2000. She had to borrow large amount of money to put up her first restaurant. One year later, she opened another branch with plus a new concept restaurant, Bento Box.
Happy’s other businesses includes Hawaiian Bar-B-Que, Pamana Restaurant, and the I Luv Backyard BBQ joint. She also established the Chef Happy’s Home Made Specialties and Catering Kitchen, and My Happy Carts, which are themed food carts for kiddie parties.
