NTC approves PLDT's acquisition of Digitel

National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on Wednesday finally gave their green light of acquisition of country’s biggest Telco. The Manny Pangilinan group PLDT now owns more than 50% share of the Digitel the operator of Sun Cellular.

Philippine Long Distance Telephone company now becomes the biggest telco in the country. They own the following brands – Smart, Red Mobile, and Talk N’ Text. Manny Pangilinan group is now up against the Ayala-led telco Globe Telecom which own the brand Globe & Touch Mobile.

Digitel prior to the acquisition of PLDT was under JG Summit Group, the same holding company who owns Cebu Pacific Air. Manny Pangilinan group however owns TV5 &PLDT Group; in the news the other day MVP offers upgrade of the MRT 3.
