As of May, PLDT cellular unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the Philippines’ first to introduce 5G, had activated more than 3,000 5G stations across the nation, consolidating its position as the country’s fastest and widest 5G network.
This includes 5G sites in remote and mountainous places, such as Brgy. Linut-od in Argao, Cebu, where it allows dialysis patients like Elena Camson to get telemedicine services.
“I used to have to go to the town for check-ups when there was still no signal here,” said Camson. Linut-od is located 23 kilometers away from the town proper. Camson, who was diagnosed with the end-stage renal disease three years ago, added that she used to walk to a neighboring barangay just to catch a ride to the clinic.
“A strong network is a huge help for us especially for telemedicine,” said Dr Stanley Caminero, Argao’s community doctor, whom Camson consults with regularly. “Instead of traveling to town, patients can consult virtually via Smart 5G.”
Caminero went on to remark that 5G allows for the transmission of high-quality video, which allows doctors like him to grasp what their patients are trying to convey right away. “We can provide our patients with high-quality service and correct diagnoses,” he said.
Smart recently expanded its Unli 5G offer to span all Smart 5G sites countrywide, marking an unprecedented move that allows more Filipinos to take advantage of Smart’s most powerful offer on its fastest technology ever.
Smart’s Unli 5G offer is now available to customers in over 3,000 Smart 5G locations across the country, including Batangas, Bacolod, Boracay, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Pampanga, Pangasinan, and Quezon, as well as Metro Manila, Angeles City, Baguio City, Cavite City, Cebu City, Clark City, and Davao City.
