There is one big trouble with prepaid SIM card users. Once you lost your phone for some reasons, your contacts in your prepaid SIM goes with it, PLUS your prepaid number. And since that number is prepaid, you cannot recover it anymore. Bye old number, bye all contacts.
Smart through its VAS partner MagellaNet came up with SIMSafe. It is a sort of Insurance for your prepaid SIM.
- FREE replacement of the lost sim with the same mobile number
- Ability to back up your contacts and download them to your new phone
- Disabling of lost SIM to prevent it from being used
Do not celebrate yet, SIMSafe does not cover all phones. There are list of phones that can only avail of this program. Right now it is only working for some Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones.

Steps to register to SIMSafe.
- To register, text REG and send to 7467. (P1/msg)
- You will receive a text message outlining the next steps needed in the registration process. To confirm your registration, simply text the following to 7467 (P120/msg):
- Agree password first name last name email
Example: Agree digit@lsp1dey James Bond JBond@abc.com and send to 7467.
Download the list of qualified phone in this link. List is long so kindly take a little time to download it.
After your registration, SIMsafe system will send you a text message on how to back-up your contacts. And by the way, you need to turn on your phone’s GPRS feature. Here’s how to do it. Text SET and send to 211. Wait for the instructions from SMART. If it did not work, call your Smart Customer service and ask for support.

This is a wise investment, for only P120 annually you get your pre-paid number secured, plus your long list of contacts. I have friends who has more than five years old SIM and they cannot simply throw it away because old friends are still contacting them in that old number. SIMsafe service is open to SMART Buddy and Talk and Text subscribers only.
