In this times of picture overload where everybody in the street, offices, students, working class, executive, celebrity and a lot more take pictures for sharing in the social media and for publishing, the next must have is an external storage. An external drive that can transfer files very fast from your PC to the back up drive.
This portable drive should not be missed! The 500G WD MyPassport.
Housing is plastic while the top has a rubber-like finish. Comes with a little travel pouch, and the USB 3.0 cable – the most important cable in the package. The WDMyPassport 500G uses USB3.0 which is capable of transferring 5G per second.
Disk Speed Test. Again, we reiterate that we use a Mac in this review or if not most of our reviews and articles, so we find limited apps for testing disk drives. Disk Speed Test is a free app in Mac. The speed test gave a poor result, it showed it can’t even support a 720P video format. The speed test wasn’t that reliable though, since when we loaded a 1080P movie and played in our DVD player that reads USB drives, the movie played without any lag.
Actual file transfer test. We transferred huge files from my Mac, at first in the initialization stage, it reported to transfer an almost 100MB in 3 hours, but it improved during the actual transfer, making it 4 minutes only.
Conclusion.
A 500G external and portable hard drive should be a must these days. Specially to individuals like photographers and people that take a lot of pictures at least. And since the pricing of the external drives is now affordable compared to few years back, MyPassport 500G is highly recommended. This is also the best buddy for people with Macbook Air – your 128G, the biggest storage for MBA will be full quickly for sure.
WD MyPassport is already available in stores. Villman sells it for only P2,788.
