HP Inc. introduced the “HP Supplies Impact” Program to enable channel partners to assist HP business users in increasing ink and toner cartridge recycling in the Philippines, Australia, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore, with New Zealand and Thailand to join later this year.
The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) area is rapidly being identified as a source of ocean-bound plastic pollution, which the World Bank has recognized with a US$20 million grant to assist the present Southeast Asia Regional Program on Combating Marine Plastics.
HP’s new initiative encourages businesses of all sizes to turn ad hoc recycling events into a simple, seamless, continuous practice, allowing HP customers and partners to contribute more to sustainability efforts while aligning with HP’s global mission to recycle 1.2 million tonnes of hardware and supplies by 2025.
“Our aim is to continually increase the collection and recycling of Original HP supplies across Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines with sustainability today an absolute imperative for a better environment, society, and business. HP Supplies Impact makes sustainability more attainable for customers of all sizes and sectors,” said Samir Shah, Vice President and Head of Print Category, Greater Asia, HP.
“This is in line with our sustainable impact goal – guided by the belief that companies have a role in reversing climate change. In fact, it has become a conscious decision for customers to take part in this movement. A 2022 research report reveals that 75% of Filipino consumers prefer sustainable and eco-friendly brands, while 25% say they prefer to buy items from sellers with sustainability practices. Through the HP Supplies Impact program, we are amplifying our efforts while at the same time providing more opportunities for the wider community to lessen carbon footprint and close the loop,” added Christian Reyes, Managing Director of HP Philippines.
To make it easier for customers to recycle, HP is giving biodegradable green recycling bags to partners in the HP Amplify Impact program. These partners will then give these bags to customers when they come to their homes for their regularly scheduled visits. Customers can put all of their used HP ink and toner cartridges in the recycling bags so that HP partners can pick them up easily. The collected supplies are then sent to the HP Planet Partners program, which collects and recycles used products in 76 countries and territories around the world. This simplified process shows that HP wants to make it easier for customers to recycle and reduce plastic pollution.
HP is working with an environmental non-profit called One Tree Planted to plant a tree on behalf of a customer for every 30 ink or toner cartridges the customer sends back. This is to help stop deforestation.
As part of its larger plan to be more environmentally friendly, HP has set the lofty goal of getting at least half of its HP Amplify partners to join the HP Amplify Impact program by the year 2025. HP Amplify Impact is a voluntary part of HP’s global Amplify program. It gives more than 10,000 partners the chance to join HP in its efforts to make a real difference in climate action, human rights, and digital equity. In the Philippines, 38% of its managed resellers have already joined the Amplify Impact program. The goal is to have 30% of its managed resellers join by April 2022.
“The strength and reach of our partner and customer network are a huge asset and by bringing our partners with us on this journey, we can work together to create a more sustainable and just world. HP Supplies Impact helps our Amplify Impact partners forge a unique movement to deliver long-term sustainability while differentiating themselves competitively,” said David Tan, Head of Channels and Supplies, Greater Asia, HP.
