LG Leon Review

Consider this as the batchmate of the flagship model LG recently released. Those who finds LG G4, the most awesome smartphone of the year because of its charm, power, and good looks, but you have super low budget, LG Leon could be put into consideration. LG Leon is already out and it has a very affordable price tag. Oh, by the way, it has also the same design as the G4 — gently curved display.

What’s in the box.

The usual items can be found in the box — the micro-USB cable, wall charger, Quick guide booklet, removable battery and the LG Leon unit. No headphone found in the box.

Build and quality

LG Leon sits on the midrange category of the LG smartphones line up, it looks like the G series with the LG logo prominently printed at the bottom part exactly below the capacitive on-screen button of the smartphone. It has a hard plastic casing that has the power button and volume rocker located at the back, just like the LG G series. There are two mic, one at the bottom that sits beside the micro-USB port, and the other on top beside the 3.5mm audio port.

When you remove the 1,900mAH removable battery, it will reveal a dual micro-SIM port under the battery slot, while the micro-SD is on the lower right side. All these are accessible only when you remove the battery.

The rear key positioning of LG Leon works well with your index finger.

Display, UI and Apps

LG_Leon_03

LG Leon comes out of the box with Android 5.0Lollilop, this was forced by LG even with the 768MB RAM only. With a less than 1G RAM, you will immediately feel the sluggish performance of the phone.  The screen of the LG Leon is bright and clear, however, you will have to be patient when you start loading apps simultaneously. The knock-on feature which was originally introduced by LG is also present allowing you to turn on and off the screen with a simple double tap from the home screen. LG pre-installed very minimal apps in the LG Leon, the ones that are only essential are there. This is because LG Leon has only 4G of internal storage.

LGLeonStorage

The aid of micro-SD as additional storage will be the best option to have with the LG Leon, you can put up to 32G to extend your storage. You have to put that 32G micro-SD immediately or you will encounter the notification that says “Storage space running“.

With that small storage, I wish that LG has enabled the USB OTG feature so that end-users can access external files.

Camera and multimedia

With only 8MP on the rear, the LG Leon took decent photos specially when the available light is sufficient. Here are sample shots we made using the LG Leon.

Please check the slide show below for the rest of the photos taken using the LG Leon.

Youtube playback with the LG Leon is also clear and loud. But since it has 4.5-inch display only, you will have to rotate the screen to optimize your viewing.

Over-all performance

LG Leon can be your back up phone, no problem. A perfect gift which will not put holes in your pocket. The current SRP of LG Leon is only P5,990. From a trusted international brand like LG, you will have a worry-free technology on this cutie smartphone. The quality of photos were also good. Social media usage even with little lags can be considered.

Conclusion

It would have been priced better less than P5k mark because most of the other brands are moving to the P5k price range, yet their models start with 5-inch big display.
