If you can get your work done using just your smartphone, that is great. But wait until you try the all-new tablet from Samsung. We’ve used for more than a week and we are thrilled to share our Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Review.
Design and build
The all-new Galaxy Tab S3 is a new machine. A new breath of features was implemented on this tablet. You’ll see an all-glass construction — both the back and the front, and it is glossy.
You’ll find four speakers also. This is not the usual setup with tablets. The Tab S3 has four speakers at the top and bottom edge of the device. It has also USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio port. And to complete the high-end specs, Samsung included a dual SIM card tray with microSD support for additional storage, just in case you need more.
The home button is the classic Galaxy design and a fingerprint scanner is also embedded there. The two other capacitive buttons are also backlighted when used or touched.
Display and UI
There is a 9.7-inch super huge display for your multi-media consumption. Galaxy Tab S3’s display is equipped with Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1536 x 2048 pixels. There is also up to 5 fingers multi-touch system.
The display is quite bright and clear. Images are crisp in all angles. You can feast your eyes with all the movies available on Netflix or iFlix without eye-fatigue.
There is only one missing feature. Samsung forgot to order screen protector from Corning. So you have to buy a third-party screen protector.
The UI very Samsung. You still get the signature app drawer with a couple of pre-installed apps like Google apps, Microsoft apps, and naturally the Samsung apps. But you don’t have to worry about those pre-installed apps. If you don’t like them, you can uninstall them.
There is a 13MP and 5MP camera configuration on the Tab S3. The rear camera has a f/1.9 opening, 27mm, autofocus, and LED flash. It can also record full HD video at 30fps. There is also video stabilization on board. You can use several features of the camera like Panorama, Hyperlapse, HDR, Food Shot mode, Virtual Shot and Manual.
However, images are not impressive. Colors did not pop out, and lacking details. But you can still use it for documentation purposes.
Also, the camera operations are quite familiar. Swipe up and it will switch the camera. Very Note 7.
If your laptop is already lightweight and can only last you a day with its battery, the Tab S3 is a different thing. This is equipped with a 6,000mAH battery with a fast-charging feature.
As I am writing this review, this is already our second day using the device. That is 48 hours combination of standby and active usage.
This experience though is through a WiFi connection only. Due to lack of material time, we have not tested the device with a SIM card on board for data connectivity.
It took me almost three hours to fill up the entire 6,00mAH. Make sure you use the provided fast charger or it will take you a lifetime to charge the table.
Now, if you are a sales person, and you do lots of customer presentation, you can depend on this tablet. You can even binge-watch in between your meetings. You’ll still go home with more than 30% of battery.
The S Pen: Ok, but not ok
Write naturally. Yep. You can do that with the S Pen that comes with every purchase of the Galaxy Tab S3. There are great applications for this accessory like taking down notes, doodling creative designs and much more.
It is ok, but not quite.
Because the Galaxy Tab S3 is very thin at only 6 mm. There is no more space where you can incorporate the S Pen into the device. There is a high chance of loosing it very soon.
But don’t fret because there is a solution.
Spend another USD129 (+/-P6,500) for this might partner of the Tab S3.
The introduction fo the fingerprint scanner for additional security of every smartphone or tablet is fantastic.
Fantastic if it works 100% of the time.
The Galaxy Tab S3 gave us hard time using this feature. So we recommend using the classic pattern, PIN or password lock screen security.
Four Speakers: Fantastic sound guaranteed
This is the first time we’ve used a tablet with four speakers evenly distributed at the edge of the device.
Because of the equal distribution of the sound from each corner, you will be immersed in what you are watching. It is really fantastic as if the sound is coming from the center of the tablet.
Audio quality is very good.
You can also turn this tablet into the most expensive photo frame.
But I would not advise that.
You can rely on this device as a productivity tool as well. It is a powerful Android machine. It is powered by a Qualcomm APQ 8096 (2.15GHz + 1.6GHz) CPU. It has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable thru the microSD slot.
With these enough resources, we never experience any lags and hiccups. There are no heating issues also which is great.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 retails for P37,990. This includes the S Pen only, no keyboard. If your job is more on sales presentation this device is for you. If you are an artist and use a stylus in your work, you can also depend on this device.
With the third-party keyboard and a lot of practice, the Galaxy Tab S3 can be your main device. You can leave your office with just this device.
Take advantage of the computing power, the storage, and the software.
- Best designed tablet to date
