The Pokémon Company has officially unveiled exciting new content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, highlighting a brand-new Mega Evolution form for Lucario and a highly anticipated Mewtwo side mission through the Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension DLC. A new reveal trailer has also been released, giving Trainers a closer look at what’s coming next for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 players.
Mega Lucario Z Makes Its Grand Debut
One of the biggest highlights of the announcement is the introduction of Mega Lucario Z, a newly discovered Mega Evolution of the iconic Aura Pokémon, Lucario. Unlike the previously known Mega Lucario, this new form exhibits a drastically different transformation, triggered by unique exposure to a special Mega Stone.
Researchers within the game’s world determined that Mega Lucario Z is not a standard evolution but an entirely separate Mega Evolution due to its overwhelming surge in power—far surpassing that of a typical Lucario. To distinguish it from the original Mega form, it carries the distinct name Mega Lucario Z.
Introducing Z Mega Evolutions
Mega Lucario Z also introduces a new battle mechanic called Z Mega Evolution. These powerful forms feature significantly faster move execution after receiving commands, making them deadly in fast-paced encounters.
However, there is a tradeoff. Z Mega Evolutions consume Mega Power at an extremely rapid rate, making them less effective in drawn-out battles. Trainers will need to adopt an aggressive strategy and aim to finish fights as quickly as possible to fully maximize this new mechanic.
Mewtwo’s Extra Side Mission Arrives December 2, 2025
Another major addition comes in the form of Mewtwo’s extra side mission, which officially becomes available starting December 2, 2025. Trainers who complete this special mission will be able to add the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo to their team.
To make things even more exciting, players can also obtain both Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y through the Mystery Gift feature. These Mega Stones allow Trainers to Mega Evolve Mewtwo into either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, depending on which stone it holds.
Requirements to Access the Mewtwo Mission
To unlock the Mewtwo side mission, Trainers must first complete the main story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A or the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Afterward, they must claim both Mewtwonite stones from Mystery Gift and verify their presence in the Mega Stones pocket of their satchel.
Once obtained, Trainers should head to Lysandre Café, where hidden systems in the deepest areas of Lysandre Labs will reactivate in response to the Mega Stones—triggering the start of the Mewtwo mission.
An active internet connection and a Nintendo Account-linked user profile are required to access Mystery Gifts. Trainers will also need approximately one hour of playtime before the feature becomes available.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Explained
The Pokémon Company also confirmed the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which takes advantage of the next-generation hardware for enhanced graphics and smoother frame rates within Lumiose City.
Interestingly, the Switch 2 Edition will also remain playable on the original Nintendo Switch. However, when played on the older system, the game will retain standard content without the enhanced visual and performance upgrades exclusive to the new hardware.
