Are you a spam or a ham?

Wikipedia define spam as the use of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. It is common to e-mails, blogs, instant messaging, oh even to SMS (I’m sure you receive unsolicited text messages every now and then – it is also a spam).  E-mail spam is likewise called junk e-mail.

While spam are unsolicited messages, ham is the opposite. Its the legit messages or e-mails that you receive in your inbox or in your respective blogs.

So, what the heck is ham doing on my blog? How about spam for breakfast?

My blog started in March this year. Upon its setup –  from choosing the themes, plugins, stat counters and the like; what seems to be required is an anti-spam plugin.

Akismet was the answer.  It has been guarding my blog since then, and stats says it has been effective 99% all the time.

Akismet reports:

842 spams caught, 123 legitimate comments, and an overall accuracy rate of 99.482%.

Akismet is a plugin which identifies and blocks comment and trackback spam on blogs with integration to various blogging systems.

So now, what do you want for breakfast? Spam or Ham? You decide.
