The DOST-MAPUA Think and Tinker Laboratory – Technology Business Incubation (TBI) program, which promotes partnership between academia, business, and government, is being supported by Digital Pilipinas and Mapua University.

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) have formed a three-way partnership to create a whole-of-nation approach to mass adoption of emerging technologies in education.

We thank the DOST for the Technology Business Incubation program,” said Dr. Reynaldo Vea, President of Mapua University. “We hope to contribute significantly to the eTechnology commercialization, and we will strive to mobilize Mapua’s talents, not only our students but also our faculty members, researchers, graduate schools, and undergraduates to support the incubation initiative.”

Dr. Enrico Paringit, Executive Director of PCIEERD, noted that Mapua is one of the universities sponsored and funded by the DOST-Higher PCIEERD’s Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HeIRIT) Program by establishing the TBI.

By offering all of the required tools and assistance, including the use of its facilities, mentoring and networking, and business matching, TBI will fulfill its innovation mandate to support startups in developing products and services that harness emerging technologies to foster innovation.

“We are proud to support this tripartite collaboration with Mapúa University and DOST-PCIEERD to pilot their university-based innovation hubs,” Amor Maclang, Convenor of Digital Pilipinas, commented.

“Digital tools are transforming key elements of the education spectrum. Understanding how they are disrupting teaching and learning will give us the knowledge which tools to use and how best to implement them,” Maclang added, who is also the Convenor of the World Fintech Festival, Trustee and Executive Director at Fintech Philippines Association, and Co-Founder of GeiserMaclang Marketing Communications Inc.

The Mapua Technology Business Incubator has chosen Maclang as an advisor. In collaboration with the Mapua Technology Business Incubator, the parties have agreed to pursue collaborative research and development projects, such as the development of Micro-Certification Courses within the Digital Pilipinas Academy.

For Web 3.0 certification, Digital Pilipinas is currently working with Affinidi, a Singapore-based certifying authority. AFIN’s APIX Oxygen platform, which is developed and administered by AFIN, will be used to develop micro-certification courses.

When Digital Pilipinas teamed up with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to organize the World Fintech Festival Philippines (WFF PH) in 2021, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) signed an enlarged Fintech Innovation Function Cooperation Agreement. The agreement improves cross-border payments between Manila and Singapore while bringing the ASEAN network of integrated real-time payment systems closer to reality.

In conjunction with Proxtera, APIX, and Oxygen, Maclang said her group would employ the BSP and MAS models to create sandboxes with national line agencies to expedite innovation.

Participating mentors provided insights on the different digital tools that could play a critical role in promoting education technology.
