PLDT is PH’s fastest internet provider in 2021 – Ookla

With a Speed Score of 77.24 at the Ookla Speedtest Awards for Q3-Q4 2021, PLDT Home continues to be the Philippines’ fastest broadband network, outperforming telecom competitors.

PLDT’s Speed Score of 27.28 in the second half of the previous year was a significant improvement over the previous year’s results. The Speed Score is a metric that considers both the upload and download speeds.

PLDT also outperformed all other internet service providers (ISPs) in the country, with upload and download speeds of 217.07 Mbps and 203.97 Mbps, respectively, according to the latest data from the global benchmarking business.

Ookla evaluated data acquired from millions of consumer-initiated tests done on Speedtest platforms to determine ISP network speed. Tests on various networks utilizing digital devices linked via Wi-Fi and fixed networks by Filipino internet users are included in the data.

“Fast internet is no longer a luxury because it’s what Filipinos depend on to earn, work, and study from home. We’ve been relentless in continuously building and upgrading our network so that our customers enjoy better and future-ready homes,” says Butch G. Jimenez, Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business.

Fastest Broadband in PH’s Key Cities

According to the most recent Ookla data, PLDT has the fastest upload and download speeds in the Philippines’ three largest cities: Manila, Cebu, and Davao.

With upload and download speeds of 54.52 Mbps and 58.57 Mbps, respectively, PLDT outperformed other ISPs in Manila, including Converge, Globe, and Sky. PLDT measured upload and download speeds of 76.14 Mbps and 74.22 Mbps, respectively, in Cebu. With upload and download speeds of 70.06 Mbps and 71.50 Mbps, respectively, PLDT is the fastest fixed network in Davao above ISPs Globe and Sky.

Ookla evaluates the fastest network speeds achieved across a specific network while examining the fastest ISPs, taking into consideration tests done on various Speedtest programs that connect to a fixed network, as well as tests taken on mobile phones over a Wi-Fi connection. In the geographic area, each top carrier accounts for at least 3% of the total sample size.

Setting the Bar for PH Internet Speeds

As a result of the telco giant’s aggressive network development plans, PLDT has consistently won the Ookla Speedtest Awards for the previous four years. PLDT Home launched its biggest speed boost for consumers in the second half of 2021, with three times the speeds of the previous broadband plans.

The Philippines’ first 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service was released by PLDT Residential in November 2021, putting it in the same league as countries like South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the United States, which have access to ultra-fast home internet rates.

“The demand for the fastest broadband in the Philippines remains strong and we’re investing as well in our capabilities to install, upgrade, and repair throughout the year,” concludes Butch G. Jimenez, Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business.

In the Philippines, PLDT Home continues to set the bar for the future of home internet connectivity by providing access to cutting-edge Smart Home solutions such as Wifi Mesh devices, entertainment, and security services combined with its scalable broadband plans.

All of these technologies are driven by PLDT’s largest network in the country, with over 5.77 million fiber-powered ports and a fiber infrastructure that has grown to 743,700 kilometers, reaching 13.9 million houses and extending its coverage to 13.9 million homes.

In the midst of the country’s ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, PLDT Home has connected over 3.6 million customers, proving to be the most trusted telco among Filipino families for fast internet connections for work at home, online school, and family entertainment at home.
