Globe Labs Google Cardboard Hackathon; Win P50k; P80k

Update: Hackathon is moved to January 31 to February 1.

Attention ‘ya all developers out there! Globe Labs is challenging you to create apps for the Google Cardboard! Yep! Its a hackathon scheduled on January 24 to 25 at the Globe Corporate Showron, Valero Telepark in Makati City.

The Google Cardboard is a low­cost virtual reality viewer that transforms a phone into a basic VR headset. Cardboard is just cardboard, some velcro, plastic lenses, two magnets, and a rubber band. With Cardboard and your phone, you can visit new places play immersive games, fly through space, and more. Learn more about Google Cardboard at g.co/cardboard.

The challenge:

Globe Labs is challenging the developers to create an app for the Google Cardboard! Categories includes:

– Education
– Travel/Culture (Philippines)
– Gaming
– Retail

Of course there are rules to follow, yeah?

  1. Everyone is welcome to participate in the hackaton! You may join as an individual or a group of 4 members.
  2. You could submit more than one entry, app should comply with the criteria.
  3. Registration is through December 23, 2014 ’til January 14, 2015
  4. Google Cardboards will be available to use over the weekend.
  5. Apps will be judged on innovation, design, level of fun, completeness and presentation.
  6. You could start developing now! Submit the details of your app here: bit.ly/globelabshack
  7. Participants should submit/upload their app by Sunday, January 25. (Upload link will be given onsite)
  8. Participants should have their own demo devices (compatible to the Google Cardboard) to present to the judges. Google Cardboards would be available on site for testing and demo purposes.
  9. Participants should be onsite for the pitching/presentation.

What’s at stake?

Third Prize goes home with P20,000 cash, second prize takes home P30,000 and the first prize wins P50,000. But wait, there’s more! There is an additional P80,000 for full production for the app you created!
