Ladies and gents, please welcome LG Magna. This is the other siblings of LG Leon which we reviewed two weeks ago. LG Magna is a little bigger than LG Leon, a little bit powerful and has the similar curve as the LG G4.
Here’s the quick features of the LG Magna:
– GENTLY CURVED DESIGN
– 5-inch HD display with in-cell touch
– 1.3GHZ QUAD-CORE CPU
– 8MP rear AND 5MP front camera
– 2,540MAH removable battery
– Glance View, Gesture Shot, Touch and Shoot
Design and construction
LG Magna as a plastic construction, but the plastic cover has a neat and chrome-like finish making it look like elegant. The curve design of the body will make the LG Magna more beautiful than the other smartphones in the mid-range category. Since it made of plastic, LG Magna is really light and will fit into your pocket easily.
When my friends saw LG Magna, they thought that this is the LG G4 mini, because it looks like the smaller version of the G4. The back has the LG’s signature buttons — power button, volume rocker and the camera located in just one area.
The speaker is located on the left side allowing the sound not be blocked when playback is made and Magna is lying flat on a space.
Display, UI and Apps
Like the LG Leon, LG Magna has the same sets of apps pre-installed. The display is better than the LG Leon with 1280×720 screen resolution.
The display of LG Magna is clear and vibrant, there is no viewing angle problem. The Knock-on feature helps in turning on and off the display. It can be configured in unlocking the screen. While the screen is locked, you can pull down the top portion to reveal the current time and date. This feature is called glance view.
The Dual SIM card setup allows you to use two different SIM from another telco, however only SIM 1 has HSPA+ enabled. Also, micro-SD slot is located on top of SIM 1 slot, where you can install up to 32G. LG Magna’s on-screen buttons include a SIM-switch which allows you to switch your default SIM to another by one touch method.
USB-OTG (On the go) feature is also not available with LG Magna.
Camera and multimedia
If there is one thing to love about LG Magna it would be the camera. The 8MP rear camera did not disappoint me. I had beautiful photos taken with the LG Magna. To make it more convincing, here are few of the photos I took recently.
Look closely to the photos above and you decide if you will spend your money with the LG Magna.
Battery life and benchmarks
LG Magna, like I said earlier has a removable battery, a Li-Ion 2540 mAh battery. This little one will last you half day or about five hours when data turned on. So be advised that you need to bring a powerbank, or a wall charger because after lunch you would surely need to recharge it.
Antutu gave LG Magna a score of 17,658, while Nenamark score is 55.1fps
Performance
LG Magna can be your daily driver. So long as you don’t abuse it by playing games and all. The display is clear and crisp. There are no viewing angle problems. There are lags which can be minimized if you only run the apps that you need, or you know how to kill apps that are resource-hungry.
Conclusion
LG Magna is a great phone to start with. I used it for two weeks and I have very little complaints about it — choking because of too many apps open. There is only one concern I have, the pricing. Currently, the SRP is P9,900 which is kind of high as against the current mid-range smartphones in the market today.
