Select media in the Philippines were invited to a round-table discussion between the new TNC-accredited company, Micab and Chinese telecommunications equipment giant, Huawei.
In-Cab Custom Huawei Tablets
As part of Micab’s aggressive nationwide expansion in Metro Manila, Cebu City, Baguio, Bacolod, and Iloilo, Huawei will be providing in-cab tablets to the taxi-hailing platform. The custom Huawei tablets will cater to both sides of the Micab ecosystem: It will be used to run the driver-side application of Micab, which will allow taxi drivers to locate and communicate with the now 25,000 passengers booking cabs through the Android and iOS app on a daily basis.
Producing a tablet that can thrive in in-cab conditions, for up to sixteen hours at a time, is no easy feat, and so I’d like to commend the innovative spirit of Huawei for being able to successfully do so. Ultimately, they’ve created a tablet that I like to think is very much similar to our drivers: They’re reliable, hard-working, and efficient,” said Ybanez, who noted that the tablets also came equipped with custom hardware.
Revenue from Ads displayed on the tablet
Once passengers board the vehicle, the custom Huawei tablets will display ads courtesy of MiAds, Micab’s ad platform in partnership with Hallohallo Business. MiAds will help brands tap into the tech-savvy, affluent Filipino demographic that forms the core part of the Micab user base.
Huawei was able to tailor the tablets to Micab’s unique needs after deploying engineers from China to the Philippines earlier this year. The Huawei engineers rode Micab partner cabs for the majority of each day in order to gather data to produce a tablet that could excel in the unique conditions of a taxi, such as exposure to heat from the sunlight filtering through the windshield.
Huawei was represented at the media round-table about the in-cab tablet partnership by Andy Zhao, Huawei’s Tablet & PC Global GTM Director, and Mingang Yi, Huawei’s Tablet General Manager.
Ybanez was proud to make the announcement with two of Huawei’s brightest leaders, but he emphasized that such is the legacy the company wants to build.
