In 2023, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the wireless subsidiary of PLDT Inc (PLDT), experienced a significant surge in average monthly 5G data traffic.
The average quarterly 5G data traffic nearly doubled, showing a 95% increase compared to the previous year.
Specifically, in the fourth quarter of 2023, Smart recorded a 16% rise in average monthly data traffic on its 5G network, as opposed to the previous period.
This growth was primarily driven by the introduction of new, more cost-effective 5G devices and the ongoing promotion of Postpaid Unli5G Signature plans.
“As we strive to continue delivering the best mobile experience to our customers, we also ensure that our offers are value-packed and relevant, and that we are also able to make the latest handsets more accessible for our subscribers to make it easier for them to upgrade,” said Alex O. Caeg, Head of Smart Consumer Wireless Business.
Smart’s mobile network has been acknowledged for providing the best 5G coverage experience in the Philippines, as per the recent report from independent analytics firm Opensignal. This network supports the ever-growing data usage and covers 97% of the population. It is also a crucial component of the Philippines’ largest integrated network, which includes PLDT’s extensive fiber infrastructure spanning over 1.1 million kilometers.
