Five apps to install in a fresh laptop

Did you buy a new laptop or notebook? Or, did your ever reliable laptop’s OS crashed? Now what? Go back to ground zero.

Okay, let me share a short story. In 2010, I changed notebook several times. I had three different models of Acer – my first was the Acer AO 751 which I bought from Yugatech, after two months or so, I replaced it with Acer Aspire 1810tz, later the Acer Apire 721, and finally switching to Macbook Air 11.6. So in span of one year I have had four in a year. Every time I will do a fresh install of my favorite apps that I use in the course of my job, and hobby.

Usually, brand new laptop or notebook is already bundled with an OS, and since Windows is still widely used OS, it comes with the Internet Explorer as the default browser. But guess what, I would only use it just once – to download Google Chrome. Sorry IE.

So here’s the top five apps that I usually install in my laptop/notebook:

  1. Google Chrome – my favorite Internet browser. It used to be Firefox. 🙂
  2. Battery bar – I am a mobile person, so I should be aware of the life of my battery. Battery bar comes handy and it is a very tiny apps that you would love too.
  3. Antivirus – AVG Free – Its better to be safe than sorry, so AVG Free is a big help.
  4. Picasa –  I do photography; I used to be a Photoshop user, but since I don’t do too much post processing, Picasa is the best photo viewer/editor for me.
  5. Yahoo Messenger – still the best IM for me. No need additional elaboration.
