We used the AKG K550 on our long drive few weeks ago going the Bicol Region, and mind you, you will no longer mind those technical specification listed above. The next question you will surely ask is where can you buy this headphones and how much it is.
Design and Build
Premium design and professional look is what you will get from this AKG K550 headphones. The mixed brass and metal construction adds more in its expensive looks. Plus, if you get tired of using it you can put it in a flat surface and the two earphones will flip — this feature is called by AKG as the fold-flat mechanism.
The build is really solid and it provides 2.5 meters of cable which means you can use this as monitor headphones on your radio broadcasting and move around without any trouble.
Sound Quality and Performance
Be prepared not to hear any other sound outside when you start using the K550. When you start listening to music with the K550 your world becomes instantly private, your music only and you, ’nuff said. The base and treble are all solid, it doesn’t break up even if you push the volume control the maximum.
The AKG K550 provides a 3.5mm jack, but wait, if you have that 6.3mm port, AKG has provided a screw type adapter. No more worries if you want to use the K550 with your home sound systems with 6.3mm ports.
CONCLUSION
Next to solid sound quality and premium design is the pricing. Currently the AKG K550 is sold at P14,990. I am not burning this amount of money just for a headphone like this. But that is just me. There is a target market for this one. With the performance and the premium finish, the quality of sound it produces, I am sure you will want one of these in your collection. I also wish that the cable can be detached via a separate 3.5mm audio port in the headphone itself. By having the cable detachable, you will be able to buy one when you damage it later. It will also provide ease in keeping the headphones in your storage.
