PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) continues to provide relief packets to vulnerable sectors, this time in Paranaque City, as communities begin to recover from the effects of COVID-19.
The PSF, along with enterprises founded by billionaire Manuel V Pangilinan, has been giving relief to local government units (LGUs) and their citizens, based on its basic value of malasakit.
“Reaching out to people, especially the disadvantaged, is part of our DNA. We do our best to assist our fellowmen in their struggles to have a decent and meaningful life,” said PSF President Ma. Esther O. Santos
The 200 assistance packs, which included rice, canned goods, coffee, and other grocery items, were handed to Paraaque’s second district’s underprivileged people.
PSF teamed with One Meralco Foundation in 2020 to offer sacks of rice to families in Paraaque’s 2nd district who had lost their jobs due to COVID-19 restrictions. Smart Communications, a division of PLDT, also donated loaded 5G-ready prepaid SIM cards to students who want to learn online.
PSF has also aided Bataan, where catastrophic floods in July inundated parts of the province, along with PLDT and Smart. 600 families whose homes were flooded by the Habagat floods in Barangay Cataning, Balanga City, and Mariveles were given relief bags.
To help communities mitigate disaster risks, all of these efforts support PLDT, Smart, and the PSF’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, which provides relief while also promoting preparedness and immediate response through network resilience, continuous availability of communication services, mobile solutions, and activities.
This is also in line with PLDT’s, Smart’s, and PSF’s commitment to assisting the country in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
