Dell Latitude E7240 Review

I like Dell laptops, specially the Lattitude series because it has simple sleek design, not so fancy, no striking and odd design. No doubt it is designed for the corporate mobile professionals.

Lattitude model are business laptops next to the Vostro series really looks awesome. Very simple design and a two tone combination which could be boring for freelancers like me, but it looks good and decent for the supervisors and managers with coat and tie in Ayala Avenue. 🙂

Very thin and lightweight, this how the Dell Z7240 is. It is powered by 4th Generation Intel Core i5 processor at 1.9Ghz, it has a 4G RAM installed, and this model has a 128G SSD drive. It has 12.5” HD display with 1366×768 screen resolution with Anti-Glare LED-backlit feature. It is only 1.36kg with the 3-cell battery installed. This model has no optical drive. It comes with a Genuine Windows 8 Pro, with a free upgrade to Windows 8.1

The keyboard is a chiclet-type that includes a back light which is really good for typing on a dim environment. You can turn off the office lights in the evening during overtime and still work on the Lattitude Z7240. Unlike the other laptops, volume control of the Z7240 is located on the upper left of the keyboard and on the right side are the other LED lights for the WiFi connectivity, battery indicator and HDD, and on the right most is the power button.

There back portion reveal the other ports – 1 HDMI, 2 USB ports, the LAN port and AC port. On the left side is a dedicated WiFi button, and on the right side is a mini-Display port and another USB port, the 3.5mm audio out port and slightly hiddens is the microSD card reader.

Here are the features that I liked with the Dell Lattitude Z7240

  • It is very lightweight. It wont hurt your back even if you carry it all day in your backpack.
  • The keyboard has backlit which is advantageous to people working overtime in the office.
  • Battery life is impressive, we got 5 hours from full charge with the WiFi on and working on several task like browsing, word processing and a little photo editing on the side
  • I also like that Dell has still included the docking port in the Z7240.
  • Cables are mainly connected at the back portion. It looks neat in the front because most of the cables (LAN cable, power cord and 2 USB ports) are at the back.
  • Very loud and clear audio.

Conclusion

Over all the Dell Lattitude Z7420 which has a really good design, it has a great battery life. I have used a Dell laptop during my years in the IT sales and I know that Dell business laptops are really good.  The review unit we got is not a touch screen model and it has a viewing angle issue with me. It has a really poor viewing angle.

For the heavy users you can ask for the Core i7 model and 8G RAM. These can be configured before you place your order.

The Z7420 has an SRP of USD1,500. You can consult your Dell sales executive for details. This model can be modified to your requirement.
