#Review: UP Move by Jawbone

Wearable device will surely be hot this 2015. If you are monitoring the development at the CES 2015, there are a lot of wearable devices which were introduced there. Although the consumer is not yet ready, in my own opinion, because we don’t like to carry or  wear yet another device that needs charging at the end of the day.

UP Move is a fitness band, a new model from the makers of UP 24. Jawbone is the maker of the product is a US brand. Their products are available in the Philippines mostly in Apple authorized resellers like PowerMac Center.

UP Move is lighter versus my first Jawbone fitness band called UP24. While Up24 is kind of cute, fashionable and looks better compared to the UP Move, I like the latter for a lot of reasons.

Design

UP Move is lighter and the new design allows you to wear it either in your wrist using a separate accessory called slim strap purchased separately, or clip it anywhere in your body during your physical activity like walking. Slim strap cost US $14.99, but the clip comes free with your purchase of the fitness tracker.

The slim strap is recommended to wear to monitor your sleep, what is cool with the slim strap is it is adjustable, unlike the UP24 which has fix size.

It requires an app to use and monitor it

Available both on Apple App Store and Google Play, you can download the UP app to use and monitor your activities. It uses your smartphone or tablet’s Bluetooth communication.

You should start with pairing fitness tracker to your smartphone or tablet. You can also register with your valid e-mail address to track history of your previous Jawbone fitness tracker.

As an option, you can invite people using the same brand as teammate; this one encourages the user to achieve their goals rather than just monitoring their own activities.

What can you do with UP Move

Monitor the number of steps you do in a day. You can set a goal and try to beat it daily. You can use the clip provided in your purchase and just clip in your body and it will monitor your steps.

If you want to monitor your sleep, you have to transfer the fitness tracker to the slim stap and wear it. You have to press the device until the sleep icon appears, this tells the device that you are sleeping anytime soon.

Alternatively, you can also log other activities like the food and drink you take, you can also track your physical activities like running. This one has to be done manually, you have to  use the mobile app for this device.

As for me, I only use and monitor the number of steps and sleep. You will be surprised how you sleep well in the evening, the device tells you your sound sleep and your shallow sleep, which is a cool feature.

Conclusion

I only tested fitness band from Jawbone, so I can’t compare it with the others. Although I saw the Mi Band and the Huawei Talkband, I never tried wearing them for review.

The UP Move is way better than the UP24 (sorry UP24, hehe!). Although the UP24 is a good looking device, UP Move is way better in terms of usage and wearing it. It is adjustable with the slim strap, it is also powered by a battery that can last for six months. The battery is available in any watch store, the code is CR 2032, a 3V battery. This means a lot because you do not have to charge another device at the end of the day.

What I don’t like about this device is the automatic detection when are you sleeping already. You would miss it most of the time to log your sleep because you have to inform the device that you on sleep mode already. Pressing the device until the sleep icon displays will only activate the tracking.

What will piss you is the process of transferring the device from the clip to the slim strap. It is kind of difficult to install it either on the clip or the strap.

UP Move is now available in stores in the Metro. You can check PowerMac Center, Beyond The Box, and other Apple auhtorized resellers. SRP is P2,880.
