The San Miguel Corporation headed by Ramon Ang is set to launch its mobile telco business in 2014. This was confirmed by a letter from SMC addressed to the PSE dated November 11, 2013.
The initial news has been out via Inquirer. SMC’s mobile telco is different from the previously acquired Liberty Telecoms which carry the brand WiTribe. Liberty Telecoms according to reports will focus on the broadband business.
This is part of the letter sent to the Philippine Stock Exchange by SMC.
The soft copy of the letter can be found in this link.
SMC’s entry to the telco business will make it exciting for 2014. The telco business in the Philippines is currently dominated by Smart and PLDT who also owns Sun Cellular and Talk N Text, this telco is the the Manny Pangilinan group. On the other hand, Globe Telecoms is the Ayala-led telco who also owns Touch Mobile.
If you scan your network manually, you may now see a new signal that appears with only a code aside from Smart and Globe.
