Shopee, the fastest-growing shopping app in PH has partnered with Facebook for an exclusive Shopee University session recently held at the Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Attended by over 100 Filipino sellers, this session was aimed to help entrepreneurs leverage on digital marketing skills to increase their online sales.

“We built Shopee believing that anyone can be an entrepreneur — our aspiring sellers often want to set up their own online retail businesses but lack the know-how. Our user-friendly app has made it easy for our sellers to start,” Macy Castillo, Shopee’s Head of Commercial Business, said.

“We then work with them constantly to grow their businesses and allow them to reach millions of customers with our integrated business management tools. To succeed in a global marketplace, it was natural for us to teach them the right marketing tools to promote their shops and products via Facebook, a platform our Filipino users are already very adept with,” Castillo added.

To help new and experienced Shopee sellers, Facebook sent two of its Asian heavyweights to the seminar: Deepesh Trivedi, Head of Retail & Ecommerce for Southeast Asia, and Ash Mandhyan, Philippines’ Operations Group Lead. Trivedi won Smart Award Asia’s e-commerce Leader of the Year in 2014, while Mandhyan brings in more than a decade of experience in e-commerce.

The two led the discussion on essential e-commerce topics, such as “How to Best Showcase Products in Mobile Shopping Apps” and “Best Practices for Basic Ads Targeting”. Case studies and seller panel discussion were included in the class to give participants a thorough understanding of the topics. Our sellers also had the opportunity to engage deeper with the speakers and learned about the application of Facebook advertising and Shopee ecosystem to enhance their online business performance.

“Currently, the Philippines is one of the highest digital population in the world. There are over 59 Million active Facebook accounts in the country. We see this as a great opportunity in helping Filipinos grow their business and guide them on how to optimize our marketing tools. We’re happy to partner with Shopee and be able to share our insights to the sellers so they can broaden their communities and improve their lives,” said Deepish Trivedi.

Shopee University is a series of in-depth tutorial modules crafted by Shopee to aid local entrepreneurs in setting up their online business and succeed in an increasingly competitive mobile-centric environment. The first Shopee University class was held in February 2016, and since then, has visited 29 cities around the country and been attended by thousands of participants. Shopee plans to further expand and improve Shopee University across the Philippines which includes extending the curriculum and getting more prominent lecturers from m-commerce backgrounds to share their expertise with Shopee sellers.
