Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has been named the Philippines’ Fastest and Best Mobile Network in its newest assessment by Ookla, the global leader in mobile and broadband network analytics.
Ookla has only issued the Best Mobile Network citation to only 20 mobile operators worldwide, with Smart becoming the first and only Philippine mobile provider to win the honor since Speedtest began in 2017. To receive this award, a mobile operator must be first in two critical Ookla Speedtest AwardsTM categories: Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage, within the same testing period.
With a Speed Score of 62.22, Smart was recognized as the “Fastest Mobile Network” in the most recent Ookla’s Speedtest AwardsTM, which covered the period Q1-Q2 2022*. In comparison, the company that came in second place had a Speed Score of 32.48.
The competition was close, but Smart emerged victorious with a median download speed of 24.26 Mbps and an upload speed of 6.59 Mbps. In comparison, the company that came in second place had a median download speed of 17.47 Mbps and an upload speed of 6.43 Mbps.
In addition, Smart dominated the category of “Best Mobile Coverage,” with a Coverage Score of 794, which was significantly higher than the Coverage Score of its closest rival, which was 732. According to the findings of Ookla’s research, the Coverage Score takes into account both the number of locations in which an operator offers service (its footprint) and the level of service offered in each individual region.
