Google and Smart has recently tied up to promote tourism in the Philippines by launching another first in a series of Google Map summits.
The objective of the Map Summit was to gather volunteer map makers or cartographers which will tread unchartered and remote territories to document roads, establishments and common places on Google Maps.
The participants used Smarts Internet connection via mobile broadband Plug-It and Pocket Wifi devices during their whole day workshop on the basics of using Google Map Maker (http://mapmaker.google.com/). The activity was held at key places in Baguio City (April 12), Bacolod City (April 16) and General Santos City (April 21).
“Smart is very happy to be working with Google on the Philippine leg of the Map Summit,” said Smart Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando B. Vea. “Not only are we providing tourists with more accessible and more comprehensive information about our country, but we are also able to provide them with the best wireless services wherever they wish to go,” he added.
