VITRO Inc., the country’s largest data center operator and a subsidiary of ePLDT, is marking its 25th anniversary this August. From its humble beginnings in 2000 with the launch of the first-ever commercial data center in Pasig, VITRO has grown into a nationwide network that powers the digital backbone of the Philippines.
A Quarter-Century of Digital Leadership
From a single 4MW facility, VITRO has expanded to over 13,400 racks nationwide, serving more than 400 local and global enterprises across industries. This growth reflects the vision of PLDT Group Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan to build digital infrastructure that supports the country’s digital economy and empowers Filipino businesses.
“For 25 years, VITRO has been more than a network of data centers—it’s been building our country’s digital foundation,” said Victor S. Genuino, President and CEO of ePLDT and VITRO Inc. “We’ve built the infrastructure, the capabilities, and the trust that Filipino businesses have relied on—and will continue to rely on—in a digital-first future.”
Setting the Standard for Data Centers
VITRO has consistently been at the forefront of the industry, setting benchmarks for reliability, scale, and innovation. Its latest milestone, the launch of VITRO Santa Rosa, marked the Philippines’ first AI-ready hyperscale data center. Designed for high-density and high-performance computing, the facility enables enterprises, hyperscalers, and public sector organizations to run next-generation workloads, including artificial intelligence.
The company isn’t slowing down—another data center is set to break ground in 2026 as part of its strategy to position the Philippines as a digital hub in Asia.
Building the Next Generation of Talent
Recognizing that infrastructure is only part of the equation, VITRO also invests in people. Through its flagship VITRO Academy, the company is equipping young Filipinos with the skills needed to thrive in the growing data center industry.
The program, developed in partnership with five leading universities, has already trained over 400 students. Of these, 263 have earned Level One certification, 60 advanced to Level Two, and 40 reached Level Three, making them job-ready for live data center operations.
“You can’t build a digital-powered economy without developing talent,” Genuino emphasized. “VITRO Academy ensures that we’re not just building platforms—we’re empowering young Filipinos to become future tech leaders.”
Looking Ahead: The Next 25 Years
As it celebrates its silver year, VITRO is doubling down on its mission to enable a Digital Philippines. Its roadmap includes accelerating cloud and AI adoption, enhancing collaboration across industries, and building more future-ready facilities that strengthen the country’s digital competitiveness.
“Twenty-five years in, our mission remains the same,” said Genuino. “To build, empower, and enable a Digital Philippines—one that is inclusive, competitive, and confidently prepared for the future.”
