Design & build quality
Considering the price, the design of the AOC 24G2E IPS gaming monitor is impressive. In terms of adjustments and all, you have up to 5.12-inch height change, up to 22° tilt, plus a 3.94-inch x 3.94 inch VESA mount compatibility.
The stand is durable and has a cable management system, while a matt anti-glare coating covers the screen. There are matte-black and ultra-thin bezels.
Two HDMI 1.4 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.2 input, VGA, and a jack for headphones are the connectivity options. With a 48-144Hz VRR set, FreeSync is supported over HDMI and DisplayPort.
Features
The monitor’s OSD menu is well organized and has all the features and tools you may need, but it is not ideal to navigate through it through the four hotkeys located under the bottom bezels as we have become used to have joysticks in the past monitors that we reviewed.
The HDR Effect feature, which simulates HDR (High Dynamic Range) is present as well, but it’s more of a marketing pitch, not something that you’d use when you have the monitor in front of you.
A low-blue light mode (with four different intensity presets), Frame Counter, Low Input Lag Mode, three gamma presets, three pre-calibrated image presets (FPS, RTS, and Racing) and three completely customizable image profiles are notable useful features of the monitor.
Performance
In general, IPS displays have a faster pixel response time than VA screens, meaning you won’t get visible dark pixel smearing in fast-moving games. Although the response time is not as fast as that of some TN panels, it is fast enough to reduce much of the fast-moving objects’ motion blur and trail.
With outstanding picture quality, but without any notable motion blur, gamers on a budget will finally be able to enjoy competitive FPS titles. The AOC 24G2E has four overdrive modes for response time.
Another significant thing to note about IPS panel displays is the IPS light, which is an expected downside of this panel technology.
The glow around the corners of the screen is visible as excess light passes through the panel. IPS glow intensity varies between various monitors.
It is only visible, however, when you have a pitch-black backdrop with a high brightness setting on your monitor and no ambient lighting in your gaming room whatsoever.
Conclusion
With the AOC 24G2E gaming monitor, you really can’t go wrong, given its price. With bright and vivid colors plus plenty of useful features — the VESA mount is just one of those features that I loved. Finally, this monitor provides a smooth gaming experience.
