How to activate your #GlobeiPhone5LTE to LTE; its not automatic

This post is for Globe subscribers who bought iPhone 5 from a third party seller. It is important that you read this or you will be disappointed.

Globe LTE
Well, many of you have probably bought iPhone 5 when it was launched in December without having to worry about its LTE feature. But we have to admit that it is more exciting if LTE is enabled. The iOS 6.1 update made us all happy. All iPhone 5 in the next 36 countries including the Philippines got the much-awaited OS update from Apple.

However, activating LTE in your phone is not automatic. It is not something that you just switch on from your iPhone’s menu and you get that LTE signal in your phone. Most of us were even joking around that after we updated, our iPhone’s signal turned into just E, LT is missing. 😀

Smart for its part have immediately called a press conference to educating its Subscribers. Check our story here. The press conference was more about LTE capping, but it included topics like how to enable your Smart iPhone 5 into LTE.

Since I am a Globe subscriber, and recently we switched to iPhone 5, the timing was just right. But, like we mentioned getting that LTE signal is not automatic. Globe has to “switch” it on in their system.

Here are the (quick) procedure on how to LTE-enable your Globe iPhone 5.

  1. Nano-SIM is King. Like me who changed phone from Note 2 to iPhone 5, I had to go to Globe center to ask for a nano-SIM. Don’t worry, Globe gives it for FREE. Just request it from the Customer Service and in no time, you will get your nano-SIM. Skip this if you already have nano-SIM.
  2. Upgrade your Apple iPhone 5 OS. To do it, you have to go to Settings, General, Software Update. It will auto-detect anyway. After the update, you are almost there!
  3. Your nano-SIM should be provisioned by Globe. Call 211 and talk to a customer care rep and ask that your iPhone 5 be provisioned for LTE.
  4. Wait for the next 24 hours. Yeah, that’s the template. LOL! But in less than 2 hours your LTE will be up and running.
  5. Turn on your LTE on your iPhone 5. To do that, you need to go to Settings, General, Cellular, Turn on: Cellular Data, EnableL LTE.

That’s it! If you are lucky enough, you will get your LTE signal and enjoy up to 42Mbps of internet speed. But wait, there’s more… You have to check if your location is already covered with LTE signal. In my case, I got LTE signal outside my house.. While inside, I only get 3G.

Now, if you have handset other than iPhone 5 that is LTE enabled, you have to do the same. Call Globe customer service, request to provision your unit to enjoy LTE.

For Globe subscribers who got their iPhone 5 before the iOS 6.1, you are lucky,  your SIM and your iPhone 5 is automatically LTE enabled.
