Motorola unveils Moto Z2 Play with new Moto Mods, smaller battery capacity

Motorola’s goal is to continue making great-performing, affordable smartphones as told by the company’s president a few years ago, and he is true. The Lenovo-owned company released some of the great devices in the smartphone within the past years in a very competitive price tags, especially the mid-range one that have some impressive features.

One of the great phones in their line-up is the Moto Z Play meets the expectation of the tech critics. The phone’s extremely long battery life, decent performance, nice camera quality, smooth response and can support modular program. It isn’t a perfect phone you know, but with an appropriate tactics to execute how it manage to take part as one of the best mid-range phones ever.


 

Now, the successor, the Moto Z2 Play aims not just for battery performance but being a thinner, lighter, and a faster phone with improved camera quality. The mid-range device comes along with new Moto Mods, which will be discussed along the way.


The Moto Z Play 2 is quite similar to the Moto Z Play. The design is almost identical but now with a thinner slim profile and lightweight. Under the hood is the power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 clocked at 2.2 Ghz, with 4GB of RAM. It includes either 32GB and 64GB of storage, to be expanded up to 2TB using microSDXC card. The battery comes in at 3,000 mAh, a significant downgrade compared to the original Z Play.

Further, the camera upgrades to a 12-megapixel lens on the rear, that proffers laser autofocus with f/1.7 aperture and a Dual-Pixel sensor. The front camera sports a 5-megapixel shooter, with dual-LED (dual tone) flash & 1.4 µm pixel size.

Meanwhile, Motorola also announced four new Moto Mods. Further, all of the last year’s modular accessories are still compatible in the Moto Z Play 2.

1. Moto Style Shell with Wireless Charging – a flimsy voguish back design that can wirelessly charge the phone at 10W on a charging pad. It will be available in Ebony Burl Wood, Grey Herringbone Nylon, Cateye Wood and Floral Print patterns.

2. JBL SoundBoost 2 – to enjoy premium stereo sound experience with built-in splash-proof coating and kickstand. It measures 152 X 73 X 14.5 mm and weighs 135 grams. It can get as loud as 80 decibels.

3. Moto Turbopower Pack (3490 mAh) – to recharge the phone at a speed of 15W with up to 50% for only 20 minutes. It is now compatible with USB Type-C reversible connector. Users can re-charge the pack using a TurboPower 30W wall charger.

4. Moto Gamepad – a portable gaming console with measurements of 226 x 75.9 x 24.4 mm and fueled by 1035 mAh battery that enables the user to have a nice gaming experience. It is equipped with dual control sticks, D-pad and four action buttons.
