Finally, another government agency has levelled up by putting its services online, at least for the first few steps. The National Bureau of Investigation, on May 18 2015 has launched a faster and easier way of securing an NBI Clearance.
From the old very long process which will take you “forever” to get your NBI Clearance, it is now down to just 3 simple steps.
“The online registration, appointment and e-Payment system is the bureau’s response to provide a more efficient and convenient processing of issuing NBI Clearance. It is the solution to eradicate queuing at the NBI clearance enters, shorten both waiting and processing time,” said NBI Director Virgilio Mendez.
Today, all you need is to go online to, register with a valid e-mail address, and do some initial steps. Step 1 is the online registration, this is where you use your valid and working e-mail address, you request for an appointment date and time, choose the NBI branch where you want to secure or renew your clearance, and pay the clearance fee. Step 2 is your personal appearance for your photo capture and finger-printing biometrics. Step 3 is Clearance printing.

If your name has not “hit”, meaning there is no other person with the same name as you, or you don’t have derogatory record with the government, you will get your clearance in no time.
“With Hit”
If your name has “hit”, then you have to wait for five days. Your clearance application will have to undergo verification process.

The agency has created a dedicated website to cater to this need. The URL is clearance.nbi.gov.ph. The website uses the latest technology as a website. You can use desktop PC, laptop, or mobile devices such as tablets or smartphones.
Payment system
There are several ways to pay your NBI clearance application. Here are your options:
- Online banking — partner banks include BDO, BPI, Metrobank, RCBC, Unionbank, UCPB, Chinabank, PNB, MAYBank, Sterling Bank, and Eastwest bank.
- Over the counter— customer can go to any participating bank. The same bank listed above are the partner banks.
- ATM and Debit Cards — BDO, BPI, Unionbank, Chinabank, Maybank, RCBC, PNB and UCBP ATM cards can be used to pay
- Mobile payment — Globe GCash.
