Smart makes the Philippines 5G roaming-ready for international tourists

As restrictions on international travel become less stringent, the PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has increased the number of countries in which its 5G roaming coverage is available to tourists traveling to the Philippines. This was accomplished through an alliance with 84 roaming partners.

When traveling to the Philippines for either business or pleasure, travelers can take advantage of the roaming services offered by their mobile network provider to connect to the country’s most dependable 5G network using their own 5G-capable SIM card and device. This allows travelers to experience Smart’s most advanced 5G network.

Since the year 2021, Smart has been increasing the amount of effort it puts into meeting the requirements of inbound and outbound customers for 5G roaming in the following countries: Estonia, Slovakia, The Netherlands, Iceland, Latvia, France, Vietnam, Qatar, Greece, Finland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal

“This is a part of our commitment to give the finest mobile experience to our worldwide consumers when they visit the country. This enables us to assist position the Philippines as the ideal location for both business and tourism in the region.” According to Chet Alviz, Vice President of Wireless Core and International Business Group at Smart, “Our partnerships with international mobile operators in key markets have allowed us to empower our customers and help them pursue their passions as we usher in the next normal.” This statement was made by Chet Alviz.

To support the constant growth of mobile data traffic, Smart increased to 76,600 its total base stations nationwide as of end-March 2022, providing 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G to customers across the country, including around 7,300 5G base stations, all supported by fiber infrastructure of 803,000 kilometers.
