Ookla officially awards Smart as the Philippines’ Fastest and Best Mobile Network
During the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, Ookla, the world’s leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, officially recognized PLDT’s wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) as the Philippine winner for Best Mobile Network, Fastest Mobile Network for five years in a row, and Best Mobile Coverage.
Ookla has recognized Smart as the first and only mobile operator in the Philippines to receive its Best Mobile Network award, which is only given to the wireless service providers with the fastest mobile network and the best mobile coverage during the same reporting period.
Eric S. Santiago, Network Head at PLDT and Smart, accepted the award at the MWC and delivered the following acceptance speech: “That’s not even the beginning. This will motivate us to keep improving and growing so that we can provide the best possible service to every Filipino through innovative and affordable methods.”
Lloyd R. Manaloto, Smart’s first vice president, was also present to accept the award on behalf of the company alongside Santiago at the MWC. “Our Best Mobile Network award has helped reinforce our network superiority, especially because according to our latest market study, Filipinos consider two important factors when choosing their mobile network: first, mobile network experience, and second, value-for-money offers,” he said. “Ookla’s Best Mobile Network award validates our claims of network superiority, allowing us to get the most out of our strategic brand campaigns. With the Best Network Now, our customers can enjoy a higher quality of life right now “Furthermore, he mentioned.
Executives Shivani York and Shawn Heidel from Ookla, respectively, presented Smart with the honor.
Smart’s 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G networks, which together cover 97% of the population, make this kind of performance possible. The PLDT Group, of which Smart is a part, is working to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), with a focus on SDG No. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
