Smart ramps up SIM Registration drive with ‘Mag-SIM Reg para hindi SIM Dead’ campaign
In order to help stop SMS scams and criminal activity supported by mobile phones, PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has stepped up its request that consumers register their SIMs by the deadline of April 26.
Smart advises users to register their SIMs through its “Mag-SIM Reg para hindi SIM Dead” campaign and warns them about all the inconveniences that come with not doing so, which results in permanent SIM deactivation or the so-called “SIM dead” predicament.
A deactivated SIM, sometimes known as a SIM dead, prevents users from making or receiving calls, sending or receiving messages, accessing the internet, and using load balances.
You won’t be able to access or use your savings and wallet credits if your SIM is dead since you won’t be able to get one-time passwords (OTPs) for your banking apps or mobile wallets.
Also, if your SIM dies, you won’t be able to access any of the apps that are tied to your cell number, including social media, messaging, and delivery apps, or reset a password that is associated with your mobile number.

“Our smartphone has become an extension of ourselves, and failing to register our SIM will cut us off from the many technological conveniences that enable us to live more today. This is why we encourage all our customers to register their Smart and TNT SIMs ahead of the April 26 deadline,” said Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business – Individual at Smart.
With 28.5 million registered users as of April 1, Smart, together with its value mobile brand TNT, continues to top SIM Registration activities in the nation.
Through collaboration with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the local government units (LGUs), the inter-agency councils, and other stakeholders, Smart has spent the past few months establishing assisted SIM Registration booths at malls nationwide, remote municipalities, and significant remote areas.
