Meet the Huawei Y7p
Arriving in the Philippines for only P9,990, the Huawei Y7 P is now officially launched locally.
This is another budget smartphone from Huawei aside from the Huawei Y6s and the Y9s which was launched early this year.
Coming in with a 6.39-inch LCD display with a screen resolution of 1560 x 720, the Huawei Y7P has a 4GB RAM plus a 64GB internal storage which is expandable via the microSD slot.
Equipped with a three-camera with AI setup at the back which comprises a 48MP F/1.8 main camera, an 8MP F/2.4, and another 2MP F/2.4 camera. The front shooter has an 8MP F/2.0 camera.
This phone is powered by Kirin 710F (12 nm) chipset and has a dual-Hybrid SIM tray.
There’s a relatively large battery with 4,000mAH.

Huawei Y7P first impressions
The Huawei Y7P has a solid build overall with a high-quality plastic back panel. The bezel is thin but the black border is visible. The chin is obviously thicker. The punch-hole camera ported on the upper left corner of the screen is something new to us. Huawei claims that this is better because there is less distraction on media consumption and gaming.
The triple AI camera setup at the back has bump hence a transparent jelly case can solve this minor issue.
Huawei’s App Gallery
Huawei has broken up with Google Services by implementing its own mobile services. The App Gallery is your NEW marketplace for apps.
The usual Google suite is gone. And when you set up the phone for the first time, you are greeted with Huawei Account to login and enable downloading of mobile apps.
Your favorite apps can be either present in the App Gallery or there’s a link for direct download.
APKPure is a good alternative when you want to install your favorite apps such as Facebook, IG and more.
Huawei Y7P in the flesh
The Huawei Y7P comes with Android 9 with EMUI Version 9.1.1
The overall experience is smooth. Switching between apps is fast and it is very responsive.
The app drawer, which is my favorite feature, can be configured via the Settings, Home screen and Wallpaper, and Home Screen style.
In terms of pre-installed apps, you’ll find minimal apps. Gone are the days that you’ll see a lot of promotional pre-installed apps.
The Huawei Y7p is nice to hold in the hands. Very lightweight even with the 4,000mAH battery. Aside from the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, you can also implement the Face unlock feature. The real challenge here is the change from Google Services to Huawei Mobile Services. It will be a total turn around from the usual. Can’t say it’s good or bad at this early. But surely, there will be a learning curve.
