Design and build

Like its previous model the Note 3 Pro is positioned to be a multimedia device having a large screen with full HD 1080p display to boot. It has a solid metal unibody design. It has a hybrid SIM tray on the upper left side of the phone, the power button and volume control on the right side. At the bottom is the microUSB port, speaker grille on the right and the noise-cancelling mic on the opposite side.

Up top is the 3.5mm audio jack, while at the back the nicely positioned 13MP camera, dual LED flash and the square-sized fingerprint scanner.

A little odd is the two-button volume control design. While it is just alright to have two-button for the up and down volume controls, we are already used to just have one-piece for this purpose.

In front is the 5MP shooter which is lined up with the proximity sensor, a single LED front-facing flash, and the speaker.

From the photo above, you can immediately see that thick bezel which is more visible when you switch to a colored theme.

Display and UI

With full HD display and a bright and clear image, you are in for a full experience multimedia viewing on the Infinix Note 3 Pro. Watching video clips on YouTube, Netflix or Facebook videos are very pleasing to the eyes.

This is how the XOS UI looks like. It has few quickie stuff that is quite useful — like the one-touch optimization button, the shuffle app that randomly switches the theme when pressed. The XPower app is also helpful in case you still need to conserve battery.

The XOS UI runs on top of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It organizes installed apps in alphabetical order when the app drawer is pushed. However, apps from Google Play are also added randomly in the home screen.

The major buttons — home, back and shortcut menu are all on-screen. This feature becomes handy instead of having capacitive buttons without backlighting.

This is how the XOS Chameleon version 2.0.0 looks like. In line with it, the Infinix Note 3 Pro has a very minimal pre-installed apps which we commonly call “Bloatware”. Aside from the Google Apps, it has the optimization apps and the themes app.

Storage

If there is one thing that you should ask for more is the built-in storage. The Infinix Note 3 Pro is only equipped with 16G. However, we can still thank the brand for including a hybrid card slot to support up to 128G of the microSD external drive.

Out of the 16G built-in storage, you still have 10G to install your favorite apps and consume the rest of your photos, videos, and other media content.

Camera

The main shooter of the Note 3 Pro is equipped with 13MP with dual LED flash. The front-facing camera has 5MP and a single LED flash. Both cameras take good pictures but we observe that the quality of photos produced by the Infinix Hot 4 Pro is better.

The rear camera captures at F/2.2 aperture by default and the average file size is from 2.1Mb to 2.5Mb.

Here are some of the samples out of the camera. No editing has been done here.

Front camera samples:

The rear camera takes good photos especially when sufficient light is present. The front-facing camera has some inconsistencies and I don’t like the over exposure result and lots of noise in the image, even if the LED flash is used.

Battery life

It has 4,500mAH non-removable battery. At this rate, you should expect a lot from this device. One, it should last more than a day of usage, second, you should be able to fill that huge tank in short period of time.

Thankfully, both concerns is addressed by the Note 3 Pro. On an average usage, that means turning on the mobile data for a least 3 – 4 hours, and then back to WiFi connectivity for the rest of the day. We had it for more than a day of usage. This can be extended to a full 48 hours on minimal usage with 50% screen brightness, and WiFi-only connection only.

The supplied wall charger can fully charge the battery in less than 2 hours. This feature is called by Infinix as XCharge. It will only function with the owner-supplied charger.

Performance

Overall performance is outstanding. We did not experience any hiccups or lags when several apps are running all the same time. Also, the one-touch apps optimization is quite helpful wherein you can terminate background-running apps in just one touch.

Here are other things that we should take note in this Infinix Note 3 Pro Review: the device is OTG enabled which is great for accessing external media and files. The fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate, plus you can also configure it to take selfie shots. You enable this in the Fingerprint settings.

Antutu benchmark gave Note 3 Pro a score of 39,216.

Verdict

This device can be highly recommended for those who need a huge screen. But it is not light, we have to warn you.  And to enjoy the fast charge feature, you have to use the original charger provided. There is only one thing that we can complain, that is the low built-in storage of 16G. But you can solve this thru the microSD support, nontheless.

Pros

  • Bright display
  • Long battery life
  • Solid build
  • Good rear camera
  • Price point

Cons

  • So-so front camera
  • 16GB internal storage
