Let’s see what’s changed with the new Nokia 6 (2018) Second Generation vs the previous Nokia 6 of 2017.
As a refresher, Nokia-HMD introduced the first generation of Nokia 6 as their first Android device on January of 2017.
And last January 5 of 2018, Nokia launched the second generation of Nokia 6. Let’s compare what has been changed to the most popular first generation of Nokia 6 released in 2017 and this year’s Nokia 6. Let’s get started.
Nokia 6 (2017)
Nokia 6 is the first Android phone introduced in China by Nokia HMD, the Finnish company that owns the exclusive licensing rights of Nokia’s brand on mobile phones and tablets. Eventually, the Nokia 6 made its global availability around the second quarter of 2017.
It has a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset, Adreno 505 GPU, 32GB internal storage, 3GB RAM, (64GB Storage + 4GB RAM is available in a limited edition arte black color), a 16MP rear camera with LED flash, a 8MP front camera, runs on Android 7.0 Nougat Out of the Box.
Nokia 6 (2018)
While the second generation Nokia 6 (2018) is the first Android phone introduced by Nokia HMD this year. Same as last year, it was introduced in first in China. It shares similar specs on the first gen 6, but rather, Nokia revamped its specs with the second gen of 6.
It has a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. It upgrades its processor with the newer Snapdragon 630 octa-core chipset, Adreno 508 GPU, 4GB RAM, a 16MP rear camera with LED flash, an 8MP front camera now with bothie feature, runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat Out of the Box. It has a 32GB and 64GB storage options.

Here’s what changed
Noticeably, according to the early reports, the Nokia 6 2018 has a revamped 18:9 Full HD display. It turns out they stay with the 16:9 display. The processor of the Nokia 6 2018 was upgraded from Snapdragon 430 CPU with Adreno 505 GPU of the first gen to the newer Snapgradon 630 with 508 GPU.
They made the variants more unified on the new gen of 6. Both Black-copper-accent and White-pink-accent colors are both equipped with 4GB of RAM and with 32GB and 64GB internal storage colors.
Both device’s cameras haven’t changed in terms of their megapixels, they were both with a 16MP rear camera and 8MP front camera. Nokia added the “Bothie” feature (that is present on Nokia 8 and China-exclusive Nokia 7) to the second generation of Nokia 6.
Bluetooth was also updated to the newest version, the Bluetooth 5.0, which it can be connected up to distance of 300 meters or 985 feet (4 times of the last version).
They moved away from the capacitive buttons in favor of on-screen navigation. And they moved the fingerprint sensor to it rear side below to the cameras.
Guestimate
When Nokia 6 (2017) launched in China, some online sellers in grey markets made sell its Chinese variant for about P16,000, but later on, the global version was made available officially in the Philippines for about P11,990.
On the other hand, Nokia 6 (2018) made it’s debut for ¥1,499 (Php 11506.71) in China. We can safely assume that the guestimate of this phone could be around P13,990-14,990. This could be change when it arrives on our shores. Who knows, this could be even cheaper.
