You don’t need a high-definition display or a high-performance CPU for a smartphone that has digital TV (DTV) receiver. This is probably why a long time design for the “Galaxy” series has been implemented on the Galaxy J2 DTV, which was launched today in the Philippines.
Under the hood, you will find the same specs as the Galaxy J2. The only added feature is the DTV receiver and the S Pen-like antenna on the side of the device.
The first device released by Samsung that features Digital TV receiver is the J2 DTV.
Like we mentioned, this has the same specs at the J2.
It features a 4.7-inch qHD display with only 960 x 540 resolution at 234 ppi, but has Super AMOLED display.
You will see the same proprietary UI, the TouchWiz UI with a little older Android 5.1 Lollipop OS behind the scene. Samsung clarified that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming soon to this device too.
Running the show is a 1.3 GHz 64 Exynos 3475 quad-core CPU with Mali T720 in tandem. It comes with only 1G of RAM and a limited 8G of internal storage, but a dedicated microSD slot is there to support up to 128G.
The Galaxy J2 DTV uses a dual SIM and both are micro SIM. They are also both 4G/LTE enabled to enjoy a high-speed Internet up to 42Mbps.
We’ve had a quick time to check out the quality of display of the DTV and we found a clear and sharp images from the TV. Thanks to the Super AMOLED display of the J2 DTV.
Digital TV Channels in the Philippines
There are currently 51 channels and sub-channels in the Philippines. These channels comprise of test broadcast, live and those with a subscription. Major networks include ABS-CBN, GMA, PTV, and UNTV. Coverage depends on areas with Metro Manila having more digital TV broadcast.
