The online media and bloggers from Manila and Davao City have accepted the challenge. They will do Amazing Race-like game in the Davao City and its suburbs powered by Globe’s new 4G infra in the city.

Selected publications flew Friday of March 23 in morning to Davao City, one day before the race. Hmmm acclimatize perhaps? For me yes, because it was my first time to see the Durian City. All were excited and started to plan ahead since most of media have been to a race similar to this. We all checked-in in our Foursquare account once we touched down Davao International Airport.

And then the real check in came in. After our lunch at Buffet Palace we went straight to Marco Polo hotel.

In the evening, a press conference was held to finally introduce to Davao City the new infrastructure of Globe with no less than the Vice Mayor of the City Rodrigo Duterte gracing the event.

The press briefing were attended by publications from Davao and Manila as well. Peter Britos, Globe’s Senior Adviser shared that Davao should come first since they have identified it as one of their key markets and focus areas. Proceed here for the complete story about the 4G launch
in Davao.

The following morning was more exciting, we were all pumped up & we feel adrenaline rush in our system. We were grouped in threes forming seven teams. I was assigned as the Navigator for our team (Team TM – Black)! Take that, I am from Manila and it was my first time in the city! Ohh, Eric of Business Mirror is also from Manila and he is the Navigator for Team Go Lang Nang Go – Pink. Nice shirt Eric! We were at the briefing room as early as 8:30AM, we had our breakfast there. We share the breakfast of the crew which is not actually for us since Globe prepared a separate breakfast for us at the Cafe. Sorry crew! We were just excited.

We raced through the top local destinations in Davao City. GLobe provided us with iPhone 4S for the game. We used Social Media apps like FourSquare, Twitter and Facebook in the race. We had to take photos of the locations and check-in to the address, we had to tweet @airphilexpress and @enjoyglobe for some directions. The final pistop is at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao. The Navigators have to reach the last pitstop first and we had to instruct our team mates who are in different vans to proceed immediately to the location.

Ok, so what happened to the network test? It was awesome! The internet speed in the metropolitan is impressive, we were able to check in immediately, we tweeted fast & uploading photos were easy. There was a place called Buhangin where we lost internet connection and likewise in the Zip City . You can only do voice calls in that area.

Over-all, we had real fun in Davao City, we experienced fast internet connection. Of course, it is 4G it must be fast! And we loved iPhone 4S towards the end of the race. 🙂

Glenn Ong of GlennOng.com was able to made speedtest most of us forgot to do.

The winning team took home big cash prize from Globe and free international flight from Airphil Express! The non-winning teams did not go home crying, we all got prizes and we went home happy for the experience and fun.

Congratulations to Davaobase.com represented by Lea, Tom of PhilStar online and Jesse Pizarro Boga of Mindanao Times.
