HP Slate7 Unboxing, First Impressions, Initial Benchmarks

Towards the last week of July 2013, HP Philippines introduced the new member of their long list of products – the Slate series, an Android tablets to join the current competition. They are trying the waters for these new gadgets by introducing the biggest AIO – 21-inch Slate21, plus two more droids.

Over the weekend, we received the smallest among the three Slates, HP Slate7. Check out our unboxing photos, first impressions and the initial benchmarks.

Regularly boxed.
It doesn’t look premium is my first impression when I started the photo shoot of the Slate7. Inside the large box, are standard accessories – USB Charger, USB cable and a couple of adapter which is applicable for the Asian market.

The 10.7mm thickness makes it bulky and heavy with a total weight of 370 grams.  On top of the tablet is the 3.5mm audio port, the microSD slot for your additional storage, and the power button, on the right side is the volume rocker. The bottom part has the speakers and the microUSB port for charging. I noticed that the buttons are prominently protruding with rough finish.

Initial Benchmarks:
We noticed a little sluggish performance when viewing the galleries, but switching screens is quick and screen is responsive also. Here’s the numerical results which you might consider before getting yourself a Slate 7.

Camera has no AutoFocus.
Say goodbye to great photos for sharing to your Social Media networks if you don’t snap with your own image stabilization. Slate 7 3MP rear camera has no AutoFocus hence it is challenging to take real good pictures.
