OPPO F3 Review
From Zero to Hero. From nothing to something is what the OPPO brand has proven in the Philippines. This was the word of the Chief Operating Officer Ananda Pan during the launch of OPPO F3.
Surely OPPO is now one of the most popular smartphone brand in the Philippines. This is because of the camera that takes beautiful photos especially the front camera. So, hang on tight as we will share OPPO F3 Review in this blog post.
Unboxing the OPPO F3
Here’s our unboxing video of the latest selfie expert, OPPO F3.
What’s inside the box of the OPPO F3?
OPPO has already developed a signature when it comes to their smartphones. Inside you’ll find all-white accessories. From the wall charger to the microUSB cable up to the earphones. Plus, there is a free transparent case for additional protection of the device.
Design and build
The OPPO F3 is the most gorgeous and good looking “selfie expert” as of today. It is even slimmer and lighter versus the very popular OPPO F1s.
And if the reference is the big brother OPPO F3 Plus, you can easily spot the difference. The “six-string” antenna lines were not implemented in the OPPO F3.
The capacitive home button that doubles as the fingerprint scanner is inherited from the F3 Plus. Also, the two buttons are backlighted once in use.
Buttons placement are ergonomic. You can reach the two-piece volume control on the left easily. The power button is on the opposite side and right on top of it is the SIM tray.
SIM Tray has three slots. Yes, and this should be the standard in all smartphones. This is the best thing OPPO did on the OPPO F3. You can fully utilize the dual nano SIM and add more storage thru the dedicated microSD slot.
Display and UI
This selfie expert has 5.5-inch Full HD IPS In-Cell display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 401 ppi. A 2.5D curved glass is in place plus a Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.
The UI of the F3 is dominated by Color OS version 3, while Android 6.0 Marshmallow is running the show in the background.
Here’s how the UI looks like:
Themes can be downloaded free to customize the display and home screen of the device. The Lockscreen Magazine is there so that you are not bored. Each time you wake up the phone, it displays a random photo from the magazine.
Also, there is no app drawer, therefore all apps are installed on the home screen. You need group them either by category or by the manner you are comfortable with.
This is the sibling of the F3 Plus, but it has different camera specification. The rear camera of the OPPO F3 has 13 MP f/2.2 w/ PDAF and dual tone LED flash.
The 13MP performs well as expected. Here are sample unedited shots from the camera.
In low light condition, the camera struggles and produced noise in the image.
It records a 720p and 1080p video and the quality is superb as well. The focus hunting issue we experienced with the OPPO F3 Plus has been eliminated in the F3.
Here’s the sample video capture by OPPO F3:
The front cameras of the OPPO F3 are composed of 16 MP f/2.0 w/ AF + 8 MP 120 degrees wide angle lens.
Compared to the 6-incher F3 Plus, taking selfies and groufies on the F3 is a lot better. Size matters and with the 5.5-inch F3 it is more comfortable to take group shots and selft portraits.
Here are the samples.
The standard front camera has “bokeh” function. It is not perfect but it gets the job done.
No more selfie stick! Yes, that’s right becuase with the range angle, you can take group shots beautifully. In the photo above, we were able to fit seven of us.
The OPPO F3 is powered by 1.5 GHz 64 Bit MT6750T octa-core CPU paired with Mali T860. The next hardware spec that is commendable with the F3 is the 4GB + 64GB combination.
No more lags and you can install most of your favorite apps, use them and still enjoy a fast performance.
Because the body is made of almost all metal, we’ve experienced the device to turn hot is some instances. But it can’t burn your hand and it is something that you should not worry.
Data and Voice Quality
Standard phone calls return a clear and crisp voice quality. Data connectivity is consistent on 4G Network. WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity have no problem whatsoever.
The selfie expert OPPO F3 is equipped with a 3,200mAH non-removable battery. It can last for more or less eight hours of continuous usage of mix data and WiFi connectivity.
What’s missing in the OPPO F3 is the VOOC charging which is present in the F3 Plus. That said, the 3,200mAH battery is filled up from zero to full almost three hours.
The OPPO F3 can be my daily driver. If I have it in my pocket, I can work and do my social media activities. I can play and watch videos because it has a clear and crisp display. The sound is solid too, not noisy just enough for a 5.5-incher smartphone.
I also like the design and build of the OPPO F3. It is sleek and not slippery when you hold it. If you are careful enough the transparent casing might no longer be needed.
The only concern I have is the pricing. It is not so high, but it is not affordable as well.
