Design
The 43-inch (RMT 102) model is a very stylish and classy LED Android TV. No fancy design, just a straight and functional TV that you would like to own and enjoy at home.
It has all the standard inputs on a TV – HDMI ports (3 of them), USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth, Smart Remote. What’s missing are the physical volume controls.
The Android TV is also lightweight (6.7kg without the stand) as compared to the competing brand’s first generation. It comes with 2 base stands, but if you decide to wall-mount it, the VESA mount at the back is also available. You just need to buy your own wall mount, ok?
The premium bezel-less edge-to-edge design, with a super-thin screen-to-edge ratio, is more immersive than other TVs in the same price range with bulky protruding borders that block your viewing pleasure.
Unboxing
To give a full preview of the TV, here’s our 10-minute unboxing and quick review video from our Tech Patrol YouTube Channel.
Smart Remote
Goodbye conventional remote, hello smart remote. The realme RMT102 comes with a sleek and easy-to-hold smart remote that ships with free 2 AAA batteries.
As someone who is used to using a standard TV remote, the smart remote has a learning curve that makes it difficult to use at first.
The basic audio-video cable is also a custom cable; if you have this setup, make sure to look after the cable; otherwise, it would be difficult to locate one online.
Display
Do you still remember Chroma Boost technology? Of course! It is the feature on realme’s smartphone in enhancing overall picture quality. The same technology was also made available on this Android TV making it look like a 4K TV. Videos and images are so clear and crisp. It makes colors, contrast, and clarity for overall much more stunning visuals. The smart TV’s ultra-high brightness of up to 400+ nits peak makes the TV screen clearly visible even in bright rooms.
One-touch Google Assistant + Chromecast
Because it is an Android TV it comes with perks. The remote can take voice command and let the Google Assistant work for you.
Ok, Google…
And in case you want to stream something from your realme Android phones, you can always do so because the TV has a built-in Chromecast.
Audio
There are 2 speakers that produce 24 Watts output. Of all the TV that I have reviewed here at Tech Patrol, only the realme Android TV has the best audio so far. Thanks to the Dolby Audio Speakers can split and play sounds in discrete channels from various directions — front, side, and rear — creating a surround sound effect for a more immersive experience.
Playstore + Thousands of apps
Like what you do when you first configure your Android phone, the TV comes with Google’s Playstore which means you can enjoy a lot of apps available for download.
But as it is, the Android TV already comes pre-installed with basically all the entertainment apps that you need — YouTube, Netflix, LiveTV, Amazon’s Prime Video.
Note however that only the YouTube app requires no subscription fees.
Verdict
realme Android TV is a new product in the TechLife pipeline, but knowing realme’s quality about their products, I am sure it will take a hit in the market.
I particularly like the simple yet elegant design of the TV. The functionality of a smart device is also commendable. One specific feature that my old smart TV don’t have is the ability to sleep when not in use and turn off after x number of minutes when it is idle.
